“When somebody talks about home, you have to listen carefully so you know exactly which one the person is referring to.”
– NoViolet Bulawayo: ‘We Need New Names’ ( Vintage/Random House), pg 192.
I’m enjoying this book.
It got tedious for about five or six pages then the powerful, majestic “How They Left” chapter (10) shows up and you feel Ms. Bulawayo laughing at you. She transforms the very nature of the book right in the middle. It is a trick very masterly achived. Chapter 10 is particularly powerful. Short, prescient prose. Sad.
So, that’s what I’m reading now.
